Program Coordinator - Huntington Park

Job Description:

Location: El Centrito de Apoyo – Huntington Park, CA

FLSA Status: Non-exempt

Reports to: Program Manager

Under general supervision of the Program Manager, the Program Coordinator works with members and volunteers to provide information, peer-to-peer support and/or self-help services as needed or requested. El Centrito de Apoyo and Un Paso Mas (Latino Access programs) are Spanish speaking programs located in Huntington Park. This position is reserved for an individual with lived experience.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Please note that the duties may vary depending on department size, organizational structure and/or geographic location. Reasonable accommodations may be made to allow differently abled individuals to perform the essential functions of the job. Additional duties may be assigned.
  • In close cooperation with the Program Manager, works collectively to ensure the seamless delivery of program needs. Program Coordinator will support the Program Managers duties in their absence or as assign. Some of the duties are to serve as support to staff and volunteers, process payroll, collect / review COS billing in accordance with organizational policy. Provides direction to staff and volunteers to meet program contract objectives
  • Answers program phones and provides a friendly, welcoming tone for callers
  • Welcomes visitors and provides linkage to program services to meet their needs
  • Listens actively to individuals concerns and provides information, education, verbal assurance, encouragement, and support
  • Conducts research and self-educates on the nature and availability of relevant local resources
  • Establishes personal connections to relevant local agencies through which referrals may be provided
  • If when appropriate, provides advocacy services by researching information, placing phone calls on behalf of the people we serve, and otherwise directly intervening to connect people to service providers. Actively participates in maintaining the program’s established written system for tracking referrals and completes billing forms in a timely and accurate manner
  • Works actively within a multi-disciplinary team environment to develop and deliver peer-to-peer and self-help opportunities and services for people we serve.
  • Attends, and participates in staff meetings and other aspects of the day-to-day operations and community life of the worksite

  • Translate documents, English to Spanish
  • Attends, and participates in staff meetings and other aspects of the day-to-day operations and community life of the worksite.
  • Works cooperatively with other staff to assure the smooth and seamless delivery of comprehensive Project Return services to the Agency and its people we serve.
  • Maintains all records and documentation in accordance with PRPSN standards, funding source requirements, and general accepted accounting procedures.
  • Must have a desire to work with individuals impaired by extreme distress / mental illness and believe in an individual’s ability to recover from disabling mental distress
  • Must verbalize an initial and ongoing understanding of environmental variables that may present while performing administrative tasks and/or providing direct services as an PRPSN employee (i.e. individuals presenting at the agency in extreme emotional states)
  • Must exhibit good personal judgment, a non-bias attitude, sensitivity, and discretion when dealing with other individuals. Must demonstrate the skills and ability to “work and play well with others” interacting with co-workers, program participants, family members and community partners effectively and responding appropriately when experiencing interpersonal conflict with others.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Program Manager.
  • Models PRPSN approach, mission and core values in all communication and correspondence.
     

Skills:

Education
HS diploma or GED required – Certificate(s) of training in peer support preferred.

Experience
Knowledge of or experience with Los Angeles County Department of Mental Health billing procedures preferred.  Position is excellent for an individual who desires to enter/progress in the public health or mental health arena.

Other Position Requirements:

  • Position is reserved for an individual with a lived experience of mental health challenge.
  • Must exhibit good personal judgment and discretion when dealing with others, maintaining confidentiality of client health information.
  • Some significant classroom training (preferably from a certified peer supporter/advocate training course) OR demonstrated work experience in peer support, peer advocacy or self-help.
  • Must be able to work in an office environment and spend a majority of the time on the phone or researching on the internet.
  • Knowledgeable in computer applications such as Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook; good research skills.
  • Demonstrated good English/Spanish reading and writing skills.
  • Punctuality and a high level of personal responsibility required.
  • Driving with current class C driver’s license, a vehicle for transportation, proof of valid automobile insurance, the ability to be ensured by PRPSN liability insurance are conditions of employment.
  • Flexible work schedule to include occasional evenings and weekends.
  • Must know or quickly acquire extensive knowledge of local community resources.
  • Experience working with a wide variety of people from diverse backgrounds and with varied skills/education.
  • Must be able to bend, stoop, lift, and push up to 25 pounds or a regular basis, stand and move intermittently throughout the work day.
