Mary Mojica | Project Return Peer Support Network

Mary Mojica, (pronouns: she/her/hers)  Training Specialist, Training Dept., Project Return Peer Support Network

Mary has have overcome 10 years of bullying during her primary years and is proudly in recovery from mental health challenges including PTSD, Borderline Personality Disorder and Anxiety. “I’ve always wanted to help others and give back to the Latinx community as well as raise mental health awareness due to the stigma that I’ve dealt with and witnessed.”

Mary started her professional journey as a Peer when she first began working for PRPSN’s Warm Line in 2017 and began facilitating the group H.O.P.E.: Hold On Pain Ends as part of the Online Groups program. Here, she was able to hone her listening skills and grew a passion for cultivating a safe space for others.  She received her Core Gift Master Facilitator certificate in 2018 and regularly facilitates this training for PRPSN’s Peer Professional Training and Placement Program (PPTP) along with Honest, Open and Proud. Mary graduated from the PPTP in 2019. Promoted to Program Manager for the CORE program in 2020, she oversaw the peer support groups and outreach for the agency in service areas 5, 6, 7 & 8. She supported the service areas in adapting their support groups to run virtually and in implementing telehealth peer support and virtual events to connect with the community.

Late 2021, she left PRPSN to work for LAHSA as a Document Specialist where she enjoyed working with our unhoused neighbors and case managers to assist them in acquiring and completing core documents for housing. She returned to PRPSN in March 2022 to work for the Training Dept. as an Employment Specialist before finally transitioning into the Training Specialist role. Empowerment and Integrity are some of the PRPSN values that drive the work that she does in supporting our trainees and graduates in their peer careers. When she is not working or attending community resource fairs over the weekend, she enjoys traveling, cooking with her partner, and making funny videos of her two Persian cats.

“My core gift is helping others overcome issues in a healthy manner. I do this by helping others to carry honesty, to gain a sense of understanding of oneself and inspiring others to own who they are to feel confident.” Her favorite quote is "Happiness can be found even in the darkest of times if one only remembers to turn on the light" - Albus Dumbledore from J.K. Rowling's Harry Potter
