Job Title: Training Specialist

FLSA status: Non-exempt, full time 36.25 hours M-F –some weekends and evenings

Location: Huntington Park, CA with extensive travel in L.A. County and conferences held throughout the state and country.

Reports to: Program Manager Training Department

Summary: This position has responsibility for ensuring that staff receive regular trainings to enhance their skills; to provide support to our PPTP program; arrange trainings for outside agencies, travel to conferences to promote our agency and training department. 

Essential Functions: This person ensures contractual requirements are met, staff are up to date with trainings and all document is up to date and correct. 

Work activities may include any or all of the following:

  • Outreach and promotion/recruitment for the training department through (Creation of flyers/updating flyers, website updates, conference attendance, email blasts, etc.)
  • Monitor all aspects of the PPTP and other trainings applications, RSVP’s correspondence along with scheduling interviews/setting up Zoom etc. 
  • Trainer for the PPTP program participants
  • Staying informed regarding applicable legislation effecting the PMHS
  • Promoting the agency in community meetings.
  • Developing/Scheduling/creating/tracking/updating trainings and curriculum for staff and outside agencies.
  • Staying abreast of current legislation that effects Peer Training.
  • Staying abreast of funding opportunities and assistance with the application process
  • Grant Reporting
  • Provide assistance to PPTP students with Career Planning/Resumes/Cover Letters/Mock interviews, Job search, matching and encouraging trainees to apply to available positions.
  • Provide assistance with PPTP program to students with obtaining Internships (finding placements, placing, tracking, supervising/evaluating performance)
  • Make arranges and provide support to trainers including scheduling, logistics, reimbursements, and curriculum development.  
  • Welcoming, engaging, building, and maintaining rapport with trainees, internship sites, employers, PRPSN (Project Return Peer Support Network) employees, members, etc.
  • Creation of certificates, printing, signature gathering, etc. 
  • Is willing to represent PRPSN’s mission and values in all interactions.  
  • Must have a desire to work with individuals impaired by extreme distress / mental illness and believe in an individual’s ability to recover from disabling mental distress.   
  • Must verbalize an initial and ongoing understanding of environmental variables that may present while performing administrative tasks and/or providing direct services as an PRPSN employee (i.e. individuals presenting at the agency in extreme emotional states).
  • Must exhibit good personal judgment, a non-bias attitude, sensitivity, and discretion when dealing with other individuals. Must demonstrate the skills and ability to “work and play well with others” interacting with co-workers, program participants, family members and community partners effectively and responding appropriately when experiencing interpersonal conflict with others.
  • This person has excellent communication skills and can articulate the mission of Project Return and its services to a wide variety of audiences.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Program Manager.
  • Models PRPSN approach, mission and core values in all communication and correspondence.

Skills:

OTHER POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

  • The position is reserved for an individual with lived experience of psychiatric disability or mental illness.  
  • Must have a Peer Specialist Certificate.
  • Associates or Bachelor’s Degree preferred.
  • Must have training experience related to core recovery topics.
  • Experience working in the mental health field or other social services. 
  • Ability to travel extensively throughout Los Angeles County.  Class C driver’s license and clean driving record. Proof of valid automobile insurance and ability to be insured by Project Return’s liability insurance.
  • Class C driver’s license, daily access to a car and proof of valid automobile insurance.
  • All employees that drive personal vehicles for daily job functions must provide proof of auto liability insurance of a 30,000 / 60,000 policy upon the first day of employment, maintain required coverage amounts and provide ongoing documentation of continuous coverage.
  • Flexible schedule which may include some weekends, evenings, and holidays.  
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.  MS Access and PowerPoint highly desired. 
  • Must be able to bend, stoop, lift and push up to 25 pounds or a regular basis, stand and move intermittently throughout the workday.
