CAPS Takes CDCR Chino Hills
January 25th— CAPS Academy (California Association of Peer Specialists) reached a major milestone by graduating the first in-person cohort inside the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation Men’s Chino Hills. This experience marked a significant step forward in equipping incarcerated individuals with the skills and knowledge needed to become Medi-Cal Peer Support Specialists.
As a statewide joint venture between Project Return Peer Support Network (PRPSN) and Mental Health America of California (MHAC), CAPS Academy provides high-quality, trauma-informed peer support training that prepares participants for meaningful careers as Peer Support Specialists.
For these men, this training was more than just prep for certification—it was a chance to redefine their future. Now, as they prepare to reenter their communities, they carry with them the tools to support others on their journey to healing and recovery.
Hopefully, this is just the beginning of CAPS Academy training in California state prisons. The next cohort at Chino Hills is scheduled to start training on February 22.
Congratulations to these graduates--they are sure to make a positive impact on the lives of others.
