Job Title: Training Instructor
FLSA status: Non-exempt, full time 36.25 hours varied shifts that include daytime, evenings, and Saturday’s
Location: Remote and in Person

Reports to: Director of Training Institute

Summary: This position has responsibility for ensuring that students receive regular classroom instruction to prepare students to take the Statewide Certification and to enhance their skills; to provide support to our CAPS ACADEMY (California Association of Peer Supporters-Academy); and travel to conferences to promote our agency and training institute.
 

Essential Functions: This person ensures contractual requirements are met, students are up to date with training and all documents are up to date and correct. This person must have strong organizational skills, excellent communication skills, a passion for teaching utilizing core adult learning techniques and relatability to variety of personalities in students and coworkers.

Work activities may include any or all the following:

  • The Training Instructor is required to work a modified schedule to ensure they are providing onsite hybrid classroom support to all CAPS ACADEMY students. Cohorts of classes occur at a variety of times that include evenings, daytime, and Saturday’s.
  • Must be available during the classroom as scheduled to ensure the seamless delivery of the core competencies.
  • Complete Train the Trainer Program and/or act as Subject Matter Expert for program
  • Facilitate core competency topics for students of the CAPS ACADEMY students.
  • Stay informed regarding applicable legislation affecting PMHS.
  • Promote the institute and agency in community meetings.
  • Administering practice tests and monitor homework assignments to the students.
  • Work in collaboration with our CAPS academy partners.
  • Arrange guest lecturers for core competency topics.
  • Provide hands on support and guidance to students through one-to-one meetings and student support groups through scheduled office hours and as needed when a situation arrives with a student.
  • Provide constructive feedback to students to maximize their ability to succeed.
  • Attend weekly faculty meetings.
  • Welcoming, engaging, building, and maintaining rapport with trainees, employers, PRPSN (Project Return Peer Support Network) employees, members, etc.
  • Must exhibit good personal judgment, a non-bias attitude, sensitivity, and discretion when dealing with other individuals. Must demonstrate the skills and ability to"work and play well with others" interacting with co-workers, students, family members and community partners effectively and responding appropriately when experiencing interpersonal conflict with others.
  • This person has excellent communication skills and can articulate the mission of Project Return and its services to a wide variety of audiences.
  • Models PRPSN approach, mission and core values in all communication and correspondense.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Training Institute Director.

Skills:

OTHER POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

  • The position is reserved for an individual with lived experience of psychiatric disability or mental illness.
  • Associates or bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • Must have teaching/training experience related to core recovery topics.
  • Experience working in the mental health field or other social services.
  • Ability to travel extensively throughout Los Angeles County and surrounding areas in Southern California. Class C driver’s license and clean driving record. Proof of valid automobile insurance and ability to be insured by Project Return’s liability insurance. Must provide proof of auto liability insurance of a 30,000 / 60,000 policy upon the first day of employment, maintain required coverage amounts and provide ongoing documentation of continuous coverage.
  • All employees that drive personal vehicles for daily job functions
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook. MS Access and PowerPoint are highly required.
  • Employees are required to carry adequate limits of liability, with a minimum of $30,000 for property damage and $60,000 for bodily injury. A copy of the declaration page of your personal automobile insurance policy must be provided to PRPSN annuall

Must be able to bend, stoop, lift, and push up to 25 pounds or a regular basis, stand and move intermittently throughout the work day.
